This year, Kappa Sigma had 24 brothers stand on their feet for 32 hours in support of Dance Marathon at the University of Florida, the largest student-run philanthropy in the Southeastern United States. The event benefits Children’s Miracle Network and Shands Children’s Hospital and in its 13 year history, has raised over 2.3 million dollars; over $362,000 of that was raised this year alone.
Kappa Sigma was paired with the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and combined our two organizations raised nearly $47,000, enough money to win the coveted Miracle Cup. This is the fourth year in a row that Kappa Sigma has won the Miracle Cup, and the fifth year overall that Kappa Sigma has won. Many thanks to everybody who donated, you helped us stay #1 for a 5th year!

On Saturday, February 10th the Delta Delta chapter participated in an annual Alachua County event to clean up the East Side Neighborhoods in Gainesville. The brothers not only collected roadside waste, but also picked up unwanted chairs, televisions, furniture, and couches as a service for the elderly citizens of the area. An eight by ten block area was beautified in this project, and we were happy to part of this city-wide beatification effort.

William R. Hough of St. Petersburg has pledged 30 million dollars to the College of Business. Brother Hough was active in the Delta Delta chapter following WWII and has been a constant supporter of the chapter, as well as the lead donor to the Crescent House Campaign to build Delta Delta a new fraternity house. Mr. Hough’s donation to the University will result in the Graduate School at the College of Business, as well as a new building at the entrance to the University, bearing his name. This will be the first complete building on campus named for a Delta Delta.

Delta-Delta won UF’s intramural fraternity flag football championship this semester. Read what was said at the UF Rec Sports website:
“Kappa Sigma without a doubt had a season to remember. In the Fraternity Blue Championship game against AEPi (26-19), they were led by outstanding performances from Jeff Miller, Patrick Mixson, and Andrew Connor.
The Overall Fraternity Championship against Beta (18-15) brought on an impressive downpour of rain, but this didn’t stop quarterback Chris Thompson from bringing his “A” game. Chris connected twice in the first half for touchdowns. The first was a 15-yarder to Shawn Willerer and the second was a 30 yard strike to Eric Whiting. To seal the deal, Thompson took in a 5 yard QB sneak with 3 minutes left in the game. In the All-Campus semifinals loss to the Shockers (12-18), Kappa Sigma was again led by scores from Thompson, Willerer, and Whiting. Let’s see if they can keep up their solid play into the next season…”

Campus Church of Christ says, “Thank You Kappa Sigma!”
Kappa Sigma Delta-Delta recently spent a day working hard at the Campus Church of Christ by providing some man power to do lawn work and clean up the church. We spread new mulch over the playground, dug up ferns, pulled weeds, and washed windows.
